Bank accounts

In Piastro, each bank account you own is represented separately. This lets you track balances, transactions, and budgets with precision.

Why multiple accounts?

You probably have several banking products: a chequing account, a credit card, a savings account, etc. Separating them in Piastro offers several benefits:

  • Track the balance of each account individually.
  • Know where each transaction comes from (debit vs credit).
  • Import CSV statements for each account without mixing data.
  • Easily identify duplicates during imports.

Practical example

If you bank with Desjardins, you might create:

Account Usage
Desjardins — Chequing Your main chequing account for salary, rent, and everyday purchases.
Desjardins — Credit Card Your Visa or Mastercard for online shopping, subscriptions, and restaurants.
Desjardins — Savings Your savings account for emergency funds or goals (vacation, projects).

Each CSV import is linked to a specific account, ensuring your data stays organized.

Create an account

  1. Go to Settings → Accounts.
  2. Click Add an account.
  3. Give it a clear name (e.g. "Desjardins — Chequing").
  4. Choose the account type (chequing, credit card, savings, etc.).
  5. Optional: enter the opening balance for accurate tracking.
